Utter Destruction

February 4

Today we arrived in Christchurch. Our hotel that we are staying at is so cute. It has a remote cottage feel about it.  I’m staying with the largest group of girls (there is 7 of us) so we got the biggest room. I shouldn’t even call it a room; it’s more like it is a house. It has a downstairs and an upstairs with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, and living room with a TV.  It was pretty funny to watch us all get so excited about a TV so we could watch movies. We may or may not have stayed up until 1 am watching The Guardian.

Our hotel is located right by the city center. This is where the earthquakes completely destroyed this city. It’s really heartbreaking to see all of the ruins that are left from this natural disaster. There are buildings after buildings that are marked with a time for demolition and half destroyed buildings. The whole city has this solemn feel about it; it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why.
