To Swing or Not to Swing

February 3

Today was a big day; a really big day. A group of us did AJ Hackets’ Nevis Swing. This swing is the biggest swing in the entire world! It was pretty crazy. This was most definitely the riskiest thing I have ever done.

I would not have gotten through the 5-second free fall without my awesome tandem partner and roommate Kirsten. We were both totally and completely terrified the entire time. As we were getting harnessed up Kirsten asked a million questions especially “is this safe”?

As we were standing there about to hang just beyond the platform I put my hand out and demanded Kirsten to take my hand. Without hesitation she grabbed onto my hand (and didn't let go until we arrived safely back at the top). Then the scary stuff began. We had to walk to the edge of the platform and put one foot off of the edge and then the next. I’m pretty sure as soon as we were sitting in our harness, hundreds of feet above the ground, with our feet dangling every other phrase that came out of my mouth was “oh my gosh!” or “holy crap!” while Kirsten was hyperventilating and clenching my hand for dear life.  Who would of thought that 5 seconds would be so long and exhilarating at the same time. Have you ever been so scared that you physically can't scream? Well Kirsten and I both had that experience. Our mouths were open and everything but nothing would come out, that is until we felt the pull and the free fall had stopped. Then we started screaming and then laughing. We were a great big ball of emotions.  Long story short, it was a blast and so worth the nail marks that I ended up having on my hand.

The bridge of doom

I'm praying and Kirsten is crying. Just kidding, it just looks like it.

The drop off

Just swinging. No big deal.

We survived! And liked it!

My certificate of survival!

After the huge rush of excitement we got to spend the night watching the amazing street artist Pascal again. I could seriously watch him paint all night. By now he should know us by name since we are there watching him every night. Pascal is a funny man. He kept making eye contact with Stacey and I and laughing. He apparently thought we were really funny. It’s okay because we thought he was funny too.
