Today was nice and relaxing. For the first time we got to
sleep in! When I say sleep in, I mean our bodies literally would not let us
sleep past 8 am. The weird thing is it felt amazing to sleep that long.
We got ready at leisure and then walked around the town of
Paihai and went and looked throughout the shops. We found some really awesome pants that look like they
should be a skirt instead.
We were then supposed to go to Ian’s (our science professor)
beach house for an awesome bbq and relaxation on the beach. The weather was
kind of crummy and rainy so we decided to go to the movies instead. I know
really lame that we went to the movies while we are in New Zealand, but
sometimes you just need to get out of the rain. We went to see the Lorax by:
Dr. Seuss. Oh my goodness it was absolutely adorable. If you haven’t heard
about it watch this preview:
After the movie we went to a chocolate factory. We even got
to watch them making some of the truffles. We got samples too! They were so
delicious. Who knew that orange macadamia nut brittle would be scrumptious? It
sounds super weird but it was a pleasant surprise.
On our way home we stopped off at Haruru Falls. This is one
of the places that was involved in the signing the Waitangi treaty.
Today was also Stacey’s birthday! In honor of her birthday
we all decided that we would go swimming in the ocean at night! This was such a
good decision. We were already so cold that when we got into the water it
wasn’t very cold. It was so cool because when we got about waist deep the water
started glowing! How cool is that! It was really funny to listen to all the responses
of the other girls. There was everything from squeals, to screams, to laughter
when they noticed that where they were swimming was turning blue! Happy
birthday to you Stacey! You got to swim in glowing water, at night, in New
Zealand.
Naturally after we went swimming in the ocean we were
freezing so we all ran and jumped in the hot tub and told all sorts of funny
stories like our worst dates, most embarrassing moments with guys and many,
many more. Typical girl talk.
